‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ New Images; Trailer Analysis
  |  @   |

The highly anticipated teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens officially hit this Internet this morning and while some fans are squealing delight at this 88 seconds of the very first footage from the upcoming film, others aren’t too thrilled about what they’re seeing of this Star Wars sequel so far.

Disney has released the first official images from the film, which you can check out here below. Now that we’ve had our first glimpse of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, let’s talk about it.

We still do not know the main plot of the film, but we can see from the teaser that there’s stormtroopers, a desert planet, X-Wing & TIE fighters, a new lightsaber, a new droid, and a voiceover by someone who sounds like Benedict Cumberbatch, but it’s more likely to be someone else (but wouldn’t it be awesome if it was Cumbers???), as well as the return of the Millennium Falcon!!!

We see John Boyega in stormtrooper attire; a hooded Sith staggering in the snow holding a new type of red lightsaber with a cross-style hilt; Daisy Ridley on a new type of desert landspeeder with googles on her head; and the aforementioned Millennium Falcon — looking like it’s gotten an upgrade — up against two Imperial TIE fighters.

Missing from the images and the trailer are the returning actors — Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, along with the original costumed cast Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Kenny Baker as R2-D2, and Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca. I’m guessing Disney is saving their reveal for the full-length trailer.

But, the trailer did debuted the new score from John Williams!!!

While these images and trailer definitely bring about excitement for me, it prompts a lot of questions, such as…

— Is John Boyega’s character actually a stormtrooper? Or, is he infiltrating or hiding? Why is he so frightened? Is he lost?
— Who is Daisy Ridley’s character? Is she Han and Leia’s daughter? Is she searching for her Uncle Luke on Tatooine?
— Is that desert planet actually Tatooine?
— Is there a new Death Star? Is that the home base for those TIE Fighters (which we know are used for short-range attacks)?
— Is Han Solo still piloting the Millennium Falcon?
— Who is the rolling soccer-ball droid, complete with astromech bleeping sounds?
— Who is doing the voiceover? Is that Andy Serkis? Who is he talking to?
— Who is that Sith?

One thing this trailer proves — Star Wars: The Force Awakens does NOT look or feel like the Prequels!

Honestly – how can anyone NOT be excited for this new movie!?!?!? I cannot wait.

  1. Great questions especially about Boyega. We do know the Empire would recruit non-clones as troopers but extremely rare they were non-white or alien. My money is now on your idea of infiltration… ala Han and Luke. That rolling soccer Droid made me happee. Such happy.

    Pther Cool bits:
    * Sith bastard sword with lightsaber hand guard
    * Empire must be desperate if they are now allowing non-white non-clone troopers
    *New rebel helmets are balling
    * New X wings apparently are no longer two wings sandwiched but a single wing that divides in half- front half goes up. Rear half goes down. Dope. Explains why Uber no it all fanboy a called the early shots of new X-Wing a mislabeled Headhunter. They were wrong.

    * Falcon post Jedi kept dish off and looks retrofitted… new modified engines and intakes.

  2. I would like to hear about these people you mentioned who didn’t like the trailer. Every fan I know loved it.

Boyega is playing a stormtrooper who gets a conscience and turns good with Daisy Rider’s help.

  3. Yeah I loved that R2 spinning on a beach ball.

Makes me remember how kids are pretty damn stupid.
