Right now is a great time to get a Kindle or Kindle Fire tablet because they’re currently on sale! The standard Kindle starts at only $49, while the Kindle Fire devices start at $79. You can easily gift someone a Kindle ebook – see details about that down below.
He’s back! After more than ten years, vampire chronicler Anne Rice delivers a new installment in her hugely popular series that arguably paved the way for so much of today’s paranormal fiction. This novel is more introspective than adventurous, concentrating on creating a new set of characters and beginning a new chapter for Lestat as he steps into the world again. No sparkling undead here! And for under thirty dollars, it’s a must for every Anne Rice fan!
Part mythology and part humor, this tome gives the reader a look at the Greek mythos from the point of view of everyone’s favorite demigod, Percy Jackson. Knowing how much the world at large loved the books and the films, I am quite sure this big book will be a crowd pleaser. It’s not just a fun read, it really does contain the stories that have passed down through the centuries, albeit with a bit of a modern twist. List price is $24.99 but Amazon has it discounted quite a bit.
The Simpsons Family History
by Matt Groening
Harry N. Abrams Publishers Hardcover
Twenty-five years, folks! That’s how long The Simpsons has been on the air. This book not only gives us the highlights from the lives of the characters, it puts them in chronological order! This “coffee table” style book is great for the casual viewer and a must have for the avid collector (like me). It retails at $35.00 but is currently almost 40% off at Amazon.
Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files: War Cry
By Jim Butcher and Mark Powers, art by Carlos Gomez, Stjepan Sejic
Dynamite Entertainment Hardcover | Kindle
This graphic novel is a great story that falls outside of the standard novels, taking place when Harry Dresden was first made a Warden of The White Council. By existing between the original stories, it gives depth to some of the relationships that Harry has with other characters and really gives us a visible representation of what he’s made of, metaphorically speaking. It’s a lot of fun and captures the essence of one of my favorite characters in print today. It retails at $24.99 in hardcover.

Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation
By Bill Nye
St. Marten’s Press/Macmillan Hardcover | Kindle | Audio
Ok so do NOT buy this book for your creationist Uncle Fred. This is more for your budding little scientist. Bill Nye (the science guy) systematically debunks the creationist myth, using the “undeniable” science of evolution, finding evidence to back up scientific reasoning. But don’t take my word for it. Take his:
“Evolution is one of the most powerful and important ideas ever developed in the history of science. Every question it raises leads to new answers, new discoveries, and new smarter questions. The science of evolution is as expansive as nature itself. It is also the most meaningful creation story that humans have ever found.”””Bill Nye
