It’s baaaaccckkk!!!! It’s like when you get that late gift from the relative you didn’t get to see during the holidays, who had that one lonely present sitting under their tree or menorah for you? Then you manage to catch up with them in January, and bam! – another gift! That’s what the return of Brooklyn Nine-Nine feels like.

We had to suffer an entire 21 days without the FOX television series during the holiday hiatus, but it was worth the wait. A few spoilers as we catch up on where we last left off with the 99 gang….

We last left off with Jake (Andy Samberg) and Boyle’s (Joe Lo Truglio) friendship in jeopardy during a too-close-for-comfort stakeout. But don’t worry. That cliff was unhung in 23 1/2 minutes. Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) showed interest in Holt’s (Andre Braugher) nephew (guest star Nick Cannon) with resulting awkwardness, and Terry (Terry Crews) wrote a children’s book for his twins based on Gina (Chelsea Peretti) and Amy (Melissa Fumero).

In Brooklyn Nine-Nine 2.12 “Beach House”, the squad is going to Boyle’s ex-wife’s summer house (joint custody in the divorce) for the weekend to blow off some steam. Gina is looking forward to meeting six-drink Amy, and you will too, especially since the 1-5 drink Amy snapshots are hysterical. Also, it looks like Rosa and Holt’s nephew are getting serious as she asks Boyle for romantic texting advice. It’s hard to unnerve “Vacation Terry,” but Jake almost succeeds when he invites Captain Holt to the wild weekend, feeling bad because he was always left out of the parties back in his day.

Normally funny with many laugh-out-loud moments, this episode goes one step further with some of our characters acting out of their characters: Amy lets loose, Terry is not high strung, Rosa is attempting feelings, and look for Gina and Holt to change it up as well.

I hope this show out-seasons Law and Order.
