Don’t Expect To See A Matt Damon/Jeremy Renner ‘Bourne’ Crossover Any Time Soon
  |  @   |

After it was announced that Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass would return for the fifth installment of the Bourne film franchise, some speculated that there would be some sort of crossover with Jeremy Renner‘s Aaron Cross. At the time, Justin Lin was attached to direct; however, the lack of progress forced the film to be pushed back to a later date. Despite that, there was still hope that there would be such a crossover.

But during the promotional rounds at the TCAs, producer Frank Marshall confirmed that there were “no plans” for such an event.

Collider and NerdReport were the first to confirm the news. With the return of Damon and Greengrass, plans for a Bourne film centering on the Aaron Cross character has been put on hold, though Renner apparently still has a role in the franchise. To make things a bit more complicated, Justin Lin left to direct Star Trek 3.

Here’s what Frank Marshall said during the interview regarding the crossover:

Are there still plans for the two to eventually meet and have a movie together?

MARSHALL: We don’t have plans for that. You never know. I never say never. But that’s not the plan. They’re on separate tracks.

While Marshall does stop short of saying it will never happen, the producer does confirm that Aaron Cross is still a major player in the film franchise. However, he didn’t elaborate when we would see Jeremy Renner reprise his character, or if they are close to finding Lin’s replacement. This would indicate that Universal Pictures is still trying to figure things out with the character. That or Marshall is holding out. Either way, it’s unlikely we will see Aaron Cross in his own film any time soon.

The New Untitled Bourne Film lands in theaters July 29, 2016.
