Timetable For Netflix’s Marvel Series After ‘Daredevil’ Is Unclear
  |  @   |

Just this week it was announced that Netflix has scheduled the release of Marvel’s Daredevil for an April 10 premiere — all 13 episodes released at once for subscribers’ viewing pleasure. But as to when we will get to see the other Marvel series Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders is unclear. In fact, even with the recent castings of Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones in A.K.A. Jessica Jones, with Mike Colter as Luke Cage, production for either series has yet to begin, and according to Chief Content Officer of Netfix, Ted Sarandos, it could be up to a year before any of the Marvel shows on Netflix, beyond Daredevil, would make their Internet debut.

Hit the jump for more.

In an interview with IGN, Sarandos clarified his comments on the release dates of the three other Marvel series:

You should think of it about as roughly a year. Some will roll in as early as eight months and others in 15 months apart, and basically what it is is we’re not trying to meet a fall programming schedule or trying to hit a grid number, so really we want to give the shows enough time.

He added:

Jessica Jones hasn’t started production yet, so a lot happens from the first day on the set to the last day of production. So we want to give them enough room and enough time to make a great show, so I don’t want to set up a rigid timetable and deliver a show every eight months or every twelve months, but you should expect them about a year apart.

A lot of what Sarandos says makes sense. Netflix doesn’t adhere to the standard rules of Fall programming you would normally see on TV. They follow their own guidelines, but it is a business model that clearly works as seen in House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, and BoJack Horseman.

But it’s hard to say when we will actually get to see A.K.A. Jessica Jones. Filming for Daredevil began back in February 2014, so the likelihood of seeing A.K.A. Jessica Jones make its Netflix debut this year is highly unlikely.

And then there is Luke Cage, he will be played by Mike Colter. However, the series is currently without a showrunner. Finally, there is Iron Fist and The Defenders series. Looking at the schedule, if Netflix were to introduce a new character series every year, we wouldn’t get The Defenders until 2019, which perfectly coincides with the release of Avengers: Infinity War Part II.
