David Fincher and Ben Affleck Re-Team For ‘Strangers On A Train’ Remake; Gillian Flynn May Write
  |  @   |

Because if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Gone Girl director David Fincher and star Ben Affleck are going to reunite for a modern adaptation of a Alfred Hitchcock novel with a twist. The team will be working on a remake of Strangers on a Train, but the film will simply be called Strangers.

Word is that Gillian Flynn, who wrote the script for Gone Girl as well as the book it’s based on, will pen the Strangers script. But the idea of setting the film in a train may be a bit outdated, so according to Deadline, the film will be contemporary and fit for a modern day audience. Hit the jump for more.

In the original film, a tennis player and a charming and wealthy psychopathic socialite, who don’t know each other, meet aboard a train. The tennis player, who is bored with his life and marriage, agrees with the socialite that they should exchange murders. But when the socialite fulfills his end of the bargain, he begins to force the tennis player to do his end of the evil deed.

Deadline confirms that Affleck will play a variation of the tennis player who will be written as a movie star instead. The twist is, the movie star is in the middle of a campaign for an Oscar during awards season, whose plane breaks down, and is offered a ride by wealthy stranger. Seems like something that would be in Fincher’s wheelhouse. But let’s look at the schedule.

Affleck, who has just completed shooting his role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, will work on his next directorial effort, Dennis Lehane’s Live by Night. He will also have the solo Batman film as well as the two Justice League films to work on. As for Fincher and Flynn, the two are working on HBO’s Utopia.
