‘Spy’ Trailer: Melissa McCarthy’s CIA Analyst Gets Some Field Action
  |  @   |

While we wait to find out if Melissa McCarthy will sign on for Paul Feig‘s Ghostbusters film, let’s take a look at the duo’s third and newest collaboration, Spy.

Watch the trailer for Spy here below. (The Red-Band trailer is also embedded.)

In this action-comedy, the Mike & Molly star plays Susan Cooper, a veteran CIA analyst who wants off the desk and out into the field for some action. After two top agents (played by Jude Law and Jason Statham) are compromised, Susan gets her wish and goes deep undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer and prevent a global catastrophe.

McCarthy’s Bridesmaids co-star Rose Byrne is also part of the cast, along with Morena Baccarin (Firefly, Homeland), Allison Janney (Moms), and Peter Serafinowicz (Shaun of the Dead).

Feig, who wrote and directed Spy, previously cast McCarthy in 2011’s Bridesmaids (for which she was nominated for an Academy Award) and in 2013’s The Heat.

If you’re a fan of McCarthy, then Spy looks like it won’t disappoint. You can tell, especially from the red-band version, that they just let the cameras roll as she improvises. I personally think she’s hilarious and makes an excellent headliner in all her movies. Law struggles through an American accent and seems mildly amusing here, but I think Statham looks to be a scene-stealer. I’m not sure what Baccarin’s character is here, but I wonder if it will be some kind of parody of her role in the CIA television action-drama Homeland.

20th Century Fox will release Spy in theaters on May 22, 2015.
