‘The Walking Dead’ Cast Grows: Ross Marquand Announced As Series Regular
  |

AMC’s phenomenon of a television series, The Walking Dead, is set to return in just a few short weeks on February 8 — but the tight-knit group of characters we know might not be the only ones to grace the screen when the show debuts its mid-season premier.

It’s being reported that Ross Marquand will be joining the cast in the second half of the current season as a series regular that’s likely to carry over to the already confirmed season 6.

But who will Marquand play? Continue reading for possible character and storyline speculation, but beware of spoilers.

Marquand could be a number of characters already introduced in The Walking Dead comic book series or even someone entirely new; however, season 5 has followed along with the comic book stories more so than any other season, and if that is any indication, Marquand could very well be playing a key role in the show.

Speculation is that Marquand may have been cast as Aaron, a character first introduced in issue 67 of The Walking Dead comic. There are two reasons why Aaron is an important player. First of all, Aaron is the first gay lead in the ongoing comic. Why is this relevant? A few months back, creator Robert Kirkman let slip in an interview that the show would introduce a, “very prominent gay character from the comic.”

Secondly, as mentioned above, this season has used numerous storylines from the comic and followed them fairly closely. If Marquand is playing Aaron, fans will more than likely see the introduction of Alexandria, one of multiple “safe zone” towns built and inhabited by many survivors.

Whatever the case may be, we’ll be seeing a new face on The Walking Dead very soon, and with so many regular cast members as it is, we’ll surely be seeing some death as well.
