Louis CK Show

Louis CK performed live at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, the second of his 4-show run at the famous venue, which was originally scheduled for just one date (January 7th), but due to demand, the comedian added more shows.

Aside from the “laugh until you have no air” hilariousness (get to that in a moment), there are two things about this that make Louis CK stand out. One, he is the first comedian ever to have three sold-out shows in the same tour at the Garden (stay tuned to see if that extends to number 4 — I’m sure it will). And two, he is absolutely dedicated to subverting scalpers and annoying extra ticket fees. For most of his tour, he sold $45 tickets to all shows directly from his website. He also put a 200-mile distance limit for purchasers. For MSG, he was able to get Ticketmaster to agree to not bump up the fees so the prices were either $65, $45, or $25. I paid $45 for the same seats that cost $180 for Queen.

His everyman humor extends to his everyman attitude and lifestyle.

Now the laughs….there was not a moment I did not laugh. Even the sex jokes, which normally I do not care for, elicited some chuckles, while everyone else guffawed around me. Most of the show had me knee slapping, laughing-so-hard-there-were-tears, and squeaking in a high-pitched voice, “I can’t breathe! So funny!” Funny bits (I apologize for the non-Louis delivery):

– Listening to a 20-something girl complain to her friend about a guy not texting back right away. The friend’s comment is the guy is a piece of shit because the girl is amazing and he can’t handle it. “Like there’s some kid in New York somewhere going, ‘Yeah I dated this girl, but she’s just too amazing I can’t handle it. I just don’t know what to do. I started to write her back and I can’t do it, she’s just too amazing.’ Really? How is she amazing? She’s a student. She goes to school. That’s amazing! Take those classes. She’s not Nelson Mandela, fuckin’ take it down a notch.”

– “My youngest daughter? Her life’s a little simpler. She takes tap-dancing. And we started having her take tap-dancing because we figure by the time she gets a little older, it’ll be the 1930s again, she’ll have this thing she can do that nobody enjoys watching.”

– On the end of the semester tap-dancing show: “The show is about 7 months long and everybody dies at the end.”

– “I just wanna be in good enough shape so that if you hear that I died, you ask what happened. That’s my goal.”

If you can get tickets to the January 27th show or any show, go have an enjoyable and affordable time. A word of advice though…he is known to start promptly on time. The opener (missed it) started exactly at 8, and Louis walked on as the other comic walked off at 8:10, so be on time!

Originally slated to only have a January 7th show at Madison Square Garden, Louis added the second show for January 14th at the end of December, then January 24th was added just last week, and the January 27th show was added just this weekend (January 18th).

Here is the email Louis sent to his fans about the new show.

I mean, if you keep buying the tickets, I have to keep doing the shows. My third show at Madison square garden on Saturday is nearly sold out. That happened even faster than the show before it. And both of the shows that I’ve done there have been intensely fun. So I’m going to add another show.
Tuesday January 27th I’ll be at MSG again at 8pm. Buy tix on my website here:

I want to thank MSG for accommodating us with all of these shows and ticketmaster for allowing me to do our all in ticketing with no additional fee.

Ok. That’s it for now. Crazy times.

Thank you so much.

Louis.
