‘World War Z’ Sequel To Start With A “Clean Slate”
  |  @   |

Mounting production problems surrounding World War Z didn’t stop the Brad Pitt-starring film from being one of the biggest surprises of 2013. Of course when you beat expectations by grossing $540 million worldwide, a sequel would obviously be under consideration.

Paramount would fast track a World War Z sequel by getting Steven Knight, the writer and director of Locke, to write a draft for the film. While we haven’t heard of anything major, Knight is offering a small hint as to what we could expect to see in the sequel. Hit the jump for more.

Here’s what Knight told IndieWire:

“I thought, “˜why not? What fun.’ It’s not quite like the other, we’re starting with clean slate. When they’ve signed off we’re on.”

The current plan is to get the script done in time to start shooing in October, and have the film released in 2016. But as for what he could mean by “clean slate,” Knight did not elaborate.

Of course this could mean that Knight could simply use some of the unused material in the book, or he could just use the same characters from the film with his own material.

The first film ended with Brad Pitt’s character formulating a masking agent for the humans to use to defend themselves against the zombies. Now we could see the war continuing to rage on or the same events just from a different perspective or something else we aren’t thinking of. The open-ended ending does offer many stories to tell, so whatever the plot is, we should be in for the same level of excitement as the first film.

What do you think Knight meant by “clean slate?” Are you excited for a World War Z 2?

  1. I wish it had focused on the stories in the book or used a different title.
