Batman May Appear In ‘Suicide Squad’ As Lead-In To Solo Film

Batman vs Superman

In every superhero film, there is a hero and a villain. But when you have a film whose cast is entirely composed of villains, then you need a different sort of antagonist. But you may want to add a hero, just in case. And that seems to be the new rumor going around for David Ayer‘s Suicide Squad.

According to Latino Review, Batman will be talked about and seen in camera footage, but Forbes has a scoop of their own that Batman will have an “in-story scene.”

More on this as well as minor spoilers after the jump.

Word is that Batman (Ben Affleck) WILL appear towards the end of the film in a scene that involves the Joker (Jared Leto). This one scene will act as a sort of bridge to the Batman solo film which may be based on Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. The film would also introduce Ellen Yindel as the new Gotham police commissioner, which coincides with the rumor that Commissioner Gordon is dead in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

News of this comes after Tom Hardy’s departure from Suicide Squad due to scheduling issues. The actor is currently filming Alejandro González Iñárritu’s (Birdman) The Revenant with Leonardo DiCaprio. Though it hasn’t been confirmed, Jake Gyllenhaal will reportedly replace Hardy for the role of Rick Flagg, the founder of the Suicide Squad. But it is said that Hardy left because of the changes to his character, even though he is in two action scenes.

If Batman’s rumored appearance is true, it only makes sense for him to do it in the Suicide Squad. While the Joker and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) may be the most notable names on the roster, the average moviegoer may be less familiar with characters like Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Deadshot (Will Smith), and Enchantress (not to be confused with the Marvel character).

The draft is near completion, and is getting high-praise from the studio. Sources are telling Latino Review that Suicide Squad is actually “being used as a set up for the franchises villains and not only the Suicide Squad.”

While we won’t post it here, Latino Review has a breakdown of major plot points that happen in Suicide Squad. It’s actually quite a nice read. It’s spoiler-filled, of course, so if you do decide to check it out, you have been warned.
