‘The Walking Dead’ Spinoff Title Revealed; Pilot Script Leaked
  |  @   |

Slowly but surely, details about AMC’s upcoming spinoff of The Walking Dead have surfaced since the television series was greenlit back in September. So far we know that the new show won’t be set in Atlanta, GA, like the main series, but rather in Los Angeles, CA. Cliff Curtis (Trauma) is the male lead, a divorced teacher who tries hard to be good to everyone in his life, while Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and Alycia Debnam Carey (Into the Storm) are the children of female lead Nancy Tomkins, played by Kim Dickens. Walking Dead comics creator Robert Kirkman and current The Walking Dead TV showrunner Dave Erickson are writing the series with Gale Anne Hurd and Dave Alpert on as executive producers.

But AMC has yet to reveal the official title of this spinoff, currently codenamed Cobalt, but Spoiler TV has now revealed the name.

The new television series will be called Fear The Walking Dead, according to Spoiler TV, who said their sources confirmed the title, though in a separate report, IBT claims that Fear — like Cobalt — is just a working title.

Bleeding Cool recently posted excerpts from a leaked pilot script dated September 2014 titled “Fear The Walking Dead,” which is what caused speculation on the series title. BC has since removed the excerpts for legal reasons, but did keep the descriptions up. According to the script report, the pilot takes place in the time just before the zombie apocalypse hits and before the general population knows about the Walkers. This also coincides with the weeks that Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead was in the hospital in a coma (The Walking Dead pilot showed Rick waking up from the coma.) BC goes on to mention the characters who appear and how the rumors of how the Dead are coming have become urban legend. Also during this time, the CDC is trying to dispel the rumors that the dead are walking amongst them.

The Walking Dead focuses on small groups of survivors of the apocalypse in Georgia with no real story on how the plague hit and what happened in those weeks before most of the population was wiped out. The new series, which will reportedly have a new visual style than its predecessor, while set in LA, will show national response and give us more of a big picture on events.

AMC at this time has yet to officially announce the series title or when the show will premiere. As the leaked script is months old now, there could have already been major revisions to the story. And since nothing official has been released, the name of the show could change as well, though keeping “Walking Dead” in the title is probably a smart move. There’s no characters coming over from the main show, so it’s not like they can try to spotlight someone, like the network is doing with their upcoming Breaking Bad spinoff, Better Call Saul.

  1. To make sure viewers don’t confuse new show with Southern Walking Dead, they are adding a surfer character who is like Michonne, but kills walkers with his surfboard. And he calls walkers “dead dudes.” Los Angeles first knows something is wrong when a walker steps on stage at the Academy Awards and gives grunting speech that audience applauds until he starts eating Oscar host.

  2. You know what would really work as a spinoff. A dark comedy based on the walking dead. So, you put a bunch of crazy characters together and have dark funny situations with a dose of seriousness in them. So, not slapstick, but just dark humor (Fargo, Zombieland, Sean of the Dead, etc…)
