Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games Trilogy, The Expendables 2) is rumored to be in talks for a role in the Independence Day sequel, ID Forever. Directed by Ronald Emmerich, the film will pick up 20 years after the events of the first.
Hemsworth joins Michael B. Jordan as actors who have reportedly been offered a role in the film. What role has been offered to Hemsworth is not yet known, and Fox has declined any comment on the report, according to The Wrap.
James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) penned the first draft of the script, with Carter Blanchard (Glimmer) doing the rewrites. Emmerich will re-team with his producing team Dean Devlin and Harald Kloser.
Here’s what we know. Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman are coming back, but Will Smith is not. However I can see the script changing around a bit just in case the actor does have a change of heart.
Here’s Emmerich describing the plot details of ID Forever:
“The humans knew that one day the aliens would come back. And they know that the only way you can really travel in space is through wormholes. So for the aliens, it could take two or three weeks, but for us that’s 20 or 25 years”¦.It’s a changed world. It’s like parallel history. [Humans] have harnessed all this alien technology. We don’t know how to duplicate it because it’s organically-grown technology, but we know how to take an antigravity device and put it in a human airplane.”
Filming is expected to begin May 2015. ID Forever is scheduled to be released on June 24, 2016.
