Listen Now: NPR Has John Carpenter’s ‘Lost Themes’ Album Streaming For Free
  |

Last November, we announced that iconic genre filmmaker and composer John Carpenter had completed an album of new music entitled John Carpenter’s Lost Themes that would be released by indie label Sacred Bones Records. The album consists of nine instrumental tracks Carpenter recorded in collaboration with his son and Ludrium frontman Cody Carpenter and musician Daniel Davies.

With Lost Themes set to drop a week from Tuesday, National Public Radio (NPR) has made the full album available for free streaming on their website. Check out one of the songs, “Night,” embedded here below.

To listen to the entire album, head over to NPR.

I’m in love with every track on this album. Listening to it is like enjoying the soundtrack to a Carpenter film that will forever exists only in our wildest dreams. Even if the man has basically given up on recapturing his glory days as a director, it’s good to see him continuing to indulge in one of his other great passions. The scores he composed for many of his own films were beautiful works of synth simplicity that you could easily enjoy on their own.

John Carpenter may never again make a movie as awesome as the classics that defined his career, such as Halloween, Escape from New York, Big Trouble in Little China, and The Thing, but his music ambitions are alive and well. Lost Themes is the proof.

John Carpenter’s Lost Themes is currently available for pre-order on CD, MP3, and vinyl. The MP3 version will feature six remix tracks. All versions will be released on February 3, 2015.

  1. It is awesome, in the classic sense. Just pure sonic joy. Early contender for record of the year.
