Mark Millar Wanted A Hit-Girl Movie With ‘The Raid’ Director Gareth Evans
  |

Mark Millar, the comic book scribe who created the series the Kick-Ass movies were based on, revealed recently that he had discuss the possibility of a solo Hit-Girl movie with Welsh action filmmaker Gareth Evans (The Raid). Played by Chloë Grace Moretz in the 2010 original directed by Matthew Vaughn and its inferior 2013 sequel, Kick-Ass 2, Hit-Girl was by far the breakout character of the little superhero franchise that almost was.

The idea of making a spin-off with the foul-mouthed teenage vigilante was taken seriously by Millar and Evans briefly.

Here’s what Millar told IGN:

“Before Kick-Ass 2 came out we’d been talking about a Hit-Girl spin-off movie. We’d even talked to a director – we had a couple of calls with Gareth Evans, who I absolutely love. He’s an amazing director. But Gareth’s now busy.”

The Hit-Girl movie was shelved in favor of Kick-Ass 2, which had potential but failed to make a fraction of the original’s impact. Evans has since directed the Indonesian martial arts action hit The Raid (released in the States as The Raid: Redemption) and its epic sequel The Raid 2, which made my Best Films of 2014 list. Under Evans’ direction, the action sequences in the unmade Hit-Girl spin-off would have been brilliantly insane and bone-crunching.

I’m not alone in believing that movie would have been a much better viewing experiencing than the sequel that was ultimately made.
