‘Steve Jobs’ Starring Michael Fassbender Begins Filming

Aaron Sorkin‘s scripted Steve Jobs biopic was in flux at one point in time. The project was over at Sony, with expectations that David Fincher would be directing and Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio were attached to star. But when everything fell through, Universal quickly scooped it up and snagged Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) to direct the biopic about the Apple founder. It may have taken a while, with casting rumors and such, but now the studio has confirmed the cast, title, and logline, as well as announced the start of principal photography.

Simply titled Steve Jobs, the film will star Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs, Seth Rogen as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Kate Winslet as former Macintosh marketing boss Joanna Hoffman, Jeff Daniels as former Apple CEO John Sculley, Katherine Waterston as Jobs’ ex-girlfriend Chrisann Brennan, and Michael Stuhlbarg as one of the Mac’s original developers Andy Hertzfeld. Perla Haney-Jardine, Ripley Sobo, Makenzie Moss, Sarah Snook, and Adam Shapiro are also part of the cast.

Filming is currently underway in San Fransisco, CA, with plans to shoot at the actual garage where Steve Jobs and company built the first Macintosh.

The studio also revealed the film’s official logline:

Set backstage at three iconic product launches and ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac, the film takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution to paint an intimate portrait of the brilliant man at its epicenter.

Aaron Sorkin’s script is based on the biography by Walter Isaacson, and will be produced by Mark Gordon (Saving Private Ryan, Source Code), Guymon Casady (HBO’s Game of Thrones, Hope Springs) of Film 360, Scott Rudin and Academy Award winner Christian Colson (Slumdog Millionaire, Selma).

I’m interested to see how Danny Boyle intends to visualize Sorkin’s script. The cast alone already grabs my attention, as I have no doubt that Fassbender will deliver yet another fantastic performance.

Universal has yet to announce a release date for the film.
