Geek Peek: ‘Jurassic World’ Indominus Rex Dinosaur
  |  @   |

The addition of a new dinosaur in Colin Treverrow‘s Jurassic World was inevitable. As the trailer alluded to, the dinosaur the theme park scientists cooked up is beyond their control, and will obviously terrorize guests and staff members. Much of what the Indominus Rex, the fearsome new hybrid dinosaur, looks like is unknown, and has only been teased through merchandise and social media.

Through the film’s website, images of the new dinosaur has been teased. In addition, the theme park viral site updates also include new images of the island as well as information on some of the dinosaurs that may be seen in the film. Hit the jump to check them out.

ScreenCrush discovered the new updates to the site. There you can see that the site acts almost as if it was an actual theme park. There are schedules for various dinosaur-related shows, as well as times for feeding some dinosaurs. Makes me wish that Jurassic World was actually real.

While information on some of the more classic dinosaurs like the Tyrannosaurus Rex and Triceratops are featured on the site, the details on the Indominus Rex are finally being revealed.

We set out to make Indominus the most fearsome dinosaur ever to be displayed at Jurassic World. The genetic engineers at our Hammond Creation Lab have more than delivered.

At first glance, Indominus most closely resembles a T. Rex. But its distinctive head ornamentation and ultra-tough bony osteoderms can be traced from Theropods known as Abeliosaurs. Indominus’ horns have been placed above the eye orbit through genetic material hybridized from Carnotaurus, Majungasaurus, Rugops and Giganotosaurus. Fearsome indeed.

Indominus’ roar is estimated to reach 140-160db””the same as a 747 taking off and landing. And it can reach speeds of 30 mph”¦while confined to its enclosure. Come experience Indominus Rex for yourself beginning this summer. If you dare.

Sounds scary. And I’m not sure if it was such a great idea for the Jurassic World scientists to combine the DNA of every terrifying dinosaur imaginable into one ferocious beast. Below are some teaser images of the Indominus Rex.

Starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, Jurassic World opens in theaters on June 12, 2014.

UPDATE 2/1/2015: The Jurassic World Super Bowl Spot is now online.
