Is Mel Brooks Ready To Make ‘Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money’?
  |  @   |

Ever since the Star Wars parody Spaceballs was released in 1987, fans of the movie have been wanting and hoping for the sequel that was joked about in the movie, titled Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money.

Because it was only a joke initially, most people never expected the movie to ever actually get made, especially almost three decades since the original was released. But could farcical directing legend Mel Brooks be ready to actually make the sequel? A recent interview seems to indicate that he might just want to.

Now this is to be taken with a brick of salt, of course, but a poster on Reddit says that Brooks was a guest on Adam Carolla’s Take A Knee podcast recently, where he said he would like to make Spaceballs 2 with as much of the original cast as possible, and that ideally he’d like to do it after the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Whether Brooks is serious or was just having some fun, who knows. At the age of 88 he hasn’t been extremely active lately, understandably. He still makes plenty of appearances as himself, as a guest on a talk show or in documentaries and such, and he also still does a little voice acting from time to time. But as for directing Brooks hasn’t been behind the camera in 20 years, since 1995’s Dracula: Dead and Loving It, so it’s hard to believe this is something that’s going to happen.

That said Brooks had his HBO special Live at the Geffen recently, so even at 88 years young it’s clear he’s just as awesome as ever. If he still has the energy and is able to take on an entire film shoot one more time, who knows. We can all hope! Star Wars is still a little under a year away, though, so if this all ended up being true it wouldn’t even happen until he was 89.

Personally, while I’d be ecstatic to see Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money, I’d be just as excited to see Brooks make one more of his style of parody movie no matter what it was. A Spaceballs sequel. Bride of Young Frankenstein. A sequel to Blazing Saddles, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Dracula: Dead and Loving it. Or even something brand new, like his take on superhero or fairy tale movies. They’d all make fans of Brooks’ work extremely happy.

Would you like to see the return of Yogurt in Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money?
