‘Spider-Man’: Sony Eyeing Dylan O’Brien, Logan Lerman For “High School” Spidey

Spider-Man is being rebooted. Again. It was inevitable. With the poor box office showings of both The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Sony decided that it was time to put down their pride and make a deal with Marvel. While Marvel now has access to the webslinger, something fans have been wanting to happen for years since the launch of the MCU, Sony still retains final creative control. So if you’re already giving a sigh about that high school reboot, that’s on Sony not Marvel.

That being said, let’s look at who the studio is considering to play Spidey. A new report says that The Maze Runner‘s Dylan O’Brien and Fury‘s Logan Lerman are on the shortlist. Hit the jump for more.

Both Dylan O’Brien and Logan Lerman have yet to be approached for the role, according to Variety. Since The Amazing Spider-Man franchise has been cancelled, the studio will also now be looking for someone who can replace Marc Webb as director.

Sony may also be considering actors for Miles Morales. Though the report doesn’t give any names, the decision to go with the Ultimates’ character would definitely be an exciting change of pace since fans have already had to sit through two franchises about Peter Parker.

Midtown High School was a major setting for Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and according to the report, the plan is to focus more on “the setting and explore his awkward relationship with other students while fighting crime out of the classroom.”

The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series covered the “setting,” “awkward relationship with other students,” and “fighting crime out of the classroom” very nicely, so maybe they will at least consider viewing a few episodes to use as a reference.

Hopefully with Kevin Feige’s guidance, we will get the Spider-Man film we have all be waiting for.

  1. I’m curious to see what this deal does to the Marvel comic book world as it seemed that the new Secret Wars was a way to get the CB universe a little more in line with the cinematic universe.
