‘The Walking Dead’ Creator’s Latest ‘Outcast’ Gets Full Series On Cinemax
  |  @   |

Fans of AMC’s The Walking Dead, as well as the comic book series created by Robert Kirkman that the show is based on, can look forward to another show based on one of Kirkman’s comics.

It’s been officially announced that a full series order has been given to the supernatural horror-drama Outcast, which will air on the HBO-owned Cinemax. The order is for ten episodes, and Adam Wingard (You’re Next, The Guest) directed the pilot episode. Kirkman penned the pilot’s screenplay himself.

The show stars Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous, Gone Girl) as Kyle Barnes, a man whose family has been involved in demonic possessions his entire life. With the help of a preacher who also has personal demons named Reverend Anderson, Barnes is on a mission to find answers and regain the normal life he once had. While on his quest, he makes a discovery that could change his and the entire world’s fate forever.

HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo made the announcement, saying:

“We are thrilled to be in business with Robert Kirkman, a visionary talent who has the unique ability to tap into today’s zeitgeist, making him a perfect fit for the newly expanded CINEMAX roster.”

FOX International Channels is producing the series for Cinemax. FIC President and CEO Hernan Lopez added:

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring Robert Kirkman’s new drama to CINEMAX. OUTCAST is an ambitious series and Adam Wingard has directed a powerful pilot. I am very proud of the work that Robert, Sharon and team have put together.”

Here’s a more in-depth synopsis of the show:

Patrick Fugit (“Gone Girl”) stars as Barnes, a man searching for answers, and for redemption, who sequesters himself from those he loves for fear of causing greater hurt. Philip Glenister (“Life on Mars”) stars as Reverend Anderson, a West Virginia evangelist who believes he is a soldier in God’s holy war against the forces of evil on Earth. An inveterate drinker and gambler, he doesn’t believe God intends people to sweat the small stuff. Gabriel Bateman (“Stalker”) stars as Joshua Austin, an eight-year-old who lives across town from Kyle. To his family’s dismay, he appears to be in the clutches of demonic possession, but there’s something very different about this possession and its connection to Kyle Barnes.

A premiere date for the series has not yet been announced.

If interested in reading Outcast before the show arrives, you can pick it up over at Amazon. Kirkman writes the ongoing series, with art by Paul Azaceta, color by Elizabeth Breitweiser, and letters by Rus Wooton.

  1. This sounds pretty interesting. I enjoyed “You’re Next.” I hope this will be good.
