  |  @   |

The role of Rick Flag in David Ayer‘s Suicide Squad has gone through several actors already: Tom Hardy left due to issues with the scheduling and size of the role; Jake Gyllenhaal, Joel Edgerton, Jon Bernthal, and Karl Urban were rumored to replace the actor at one point, but none could fulfill the role.

Now, Robocop star Joel Kinnaman could be the person to for the job that seems to be so hard to cast. Hit the jump for more.

According to The Wrap, Joel Kinnaman is in talks to take the role past on by at least four actors. Tom Hardy left due to scheduling conflicts with Alejandro González Iñárritu’s The Revenant and the Mad Max: Fury Road press tour, although rumors say that the size of the role of Rick Flag was also an issue with him.

Should Kinnaman sign on, he will join an eclectic cast that consists of Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jared Leto as the Joker, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

Rick Flag was one of the founding members of the Suicide Squad, an elite squad of dangerous criminals recruited by the government to go on high-risk black-ops missions in exchange for commuted sentences or pardons.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor) and Ben Affleck are both rumored to have roles in the film as well, with the latter’s scene acting as a segue into his solo Batman film. Warner Bros. has Justin Marks writing the screenplay, while Dan Lin producing.

In addition to his title role in the Robocop reboot, Kinnaman is best known for his work on AMC’s The Killing. He co-stars with Liam Neeson in WB’s Run All Night and opposite Hardy in Child 44.
