Wayne Brady Does Klingon Rap For William Shatner On ‘The Late Late Show’ (Video)

In honor of two of his favorite things — Black History Month and Star Trek — comedian and TV host Wayne Brady performed a Klingon rap song on Wednesday on TV’s The Late Late Show.

Brady, who has been guest-hosting the CBS late-night talk show all this week, was inspired to do the rap — which actually includes lines in Klingon, the fictional Star Trek language — by that evening’s guest, Mr. William Shatner, aka the original James Tiberius Kirk.

Check out the “Klingon Rap” video here below.

This rap made me so happy, I’ve already watched it at least 20 times. Brady masterfully performed the song, which included beatboxing and spacey sound effects, as sidekick Jonathan Mangum (his collaborator on Who’s Line Is It Anyway? and Let’s Make A Deal) backed him up, and even inserted an appropriately-timed mini-twerk. As the rap winded down, the host introduced the one and only William Shatner, who came out and did a little dance and joined in on the “Kirk” chant portion of the song. The 83-year-old Star Trek alum then gave some performing advice to Brady, explaining that the right hand has to be near the crotch (and yes, Captain Kirk then grabbed his own crotch to demonstrate). The two then talked about Star Trek‘s upcoming 50th anniversary (in 2016) and about how Shatner shared TV’s first on-screen interracial kiss on an episode of the original series back in 1968 (it was with co-star Nichelle Nichols, who played Lt. Uhura). Shatner and Brady then shared their own interracial kiss! (See video here below.)

As for Brady, who hosts the TV game show Let’s Make a Deal, he’s one of many of the Late Late Show‘s celebrity guest-hosts this year — appearing from February 9 to 13, 2015 — while the talk show transitions from Craig Ferguson to James Corden and becomes The Late Late Show with James Corden next month.

On March 23, 2015, British TV personality James Corden, who appeared in the 2014 Oscar-nominated film Into The Woods, will take over The Late Late Show on CBS.
