The GoD List: Comics For February 18, 2015
  |  @   |

Each and every week, I, “Let it Snow!” Henchman 21 and “Noooooooooooooo!” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of February 18, 2015. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Well, I’m guessing that large parts of the country this week are going to have problems getting to their comic shops this week thanks to the joys of winter. Remember, the comics will still be there later, so if you need to wait to pick up your comics this week, that’s okay. You can just sit back and read about the comics you will buy once you can leave the house — or, gave the digital editions for those available in that format. It’s time for another blustery edition of The GoD List!

Henchman 21

Lazarus #15 (Image Comics – $3.50) Things I don’t understand: People who don’t read Lazarus. Seriously, Lazarus is one of the top 5 comic books being produced today, thanks to the compelling story of Greg Rucka and the fantastic art of Michael Lark. Rucka and Lark have created a world that feels all too possible. Rucka has given this dystopian future a fully realized history, and Lark is able to bring the world to life with tons of detail in the art. Lazarus is a comic that should be read and talked about as much as any Image book or any comic period, and yeah, this is the end of the third arc and maybe not the BEST place to jump on the series, any issue is an excuse to get me to convince more people to give the first trade a shot.

The Thrilling Adventure Hour Presents: Sparks Nevada: Marshal on Mars #1 (Image Comics – $3.99) Hooray for comics with ridiculously long titles. Yes, The Thrilling Adventure Hour Presents: Sparks Nevada: Marshal on Mars #1 is based on The Thrilling Adventure Hour podcast, and while I’ve never listened to the show before, I’m interested in the comic for the creative team. Series writers Ben Acker and Ben Blacker got their start on Thrilling Adventure Hour, but have moved on to write a number of decent comics in the last few years, and it makes sense for them to be handling this project. Then there’s the art by J. Bone, whose exaggerated and cartoony style I am always interested in, and whose art should look great thanks to the coloring of Jordie Bellaire. So, whether you’re a fan of the show or not, this may still be of interest to you.

Multiversity: Mastermen #1 (DC Comics – $4.99) Grant Morrison. Jim Lee. Nazi Supermen. Uncle Sam. Yup, it’s another crazy issue of Grant Morrison’s massive DC series Multiversity. This time, Morrison sets his eyes on Earth 10, the world where the Nazis won World War II and a small band of heroes fight against evil versions of DC’s heroes. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe this is the first time Morrison and Jim Lee have worked together, and it is an interesting dynamic to have these two working together that should be the first of many interesting things about this comic. You’re probably going to read this anyway, what with two of the biggest creative names in comics working on it, so I’ll just list it here to make sure you know it’s coming out.

Dark Horse Presents, Vol. 3 #7 (Dark Horse Comics – $4.99) I bring this to your attention because this will be the 200th issue of Dark Horse Presents, if you count it up across its various volumes. 200 issues is always something to applaud, especially for an anthology series such as DHP. This particular issue has a new Hellboy story, some Mind MGMT, some Groo and plenty more. It’s 80 pages of comics for 5 bucks, which is a heck of a value, and any issue of Dark Horse Presents is worth your time and money. Here’s to 200 more issues.

Dragonlance Chronicles: Dragons Of Autumn Twilight: Vol. 01 TPB (IDW Publishing – $24.99) This trade paperback edition from IDW collects the first 8 issues of Dragonlance Chronicles: Dragons Of Autumn Twilight, which was originally published by Devil’s Due. It’s a comic book adaptation of the 1984 fantasy novel by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, which kicked off the popular Dragonlance books series. The book was a favorite of mine, and back in 2008 there was an animated feature adaptation released direct-to-DVD which I really enjoyed (see my review published from back then), so it’s no surprise that I would want to get in on the comic book version of the tale, as I’m a completest. The graphic novel was supposed to hit brick-and-mortar stores today as well as online comics relaters like TFAW, but the publishers books have been delayed this week because ongoing problems at the shipping ports on the West coast have disrupted their shipping schedule. Now word yet on the status of their print books for the week. (Basically, because of on-going labor disputes that caused a shutdown of the ports over the weekend, all of IDW’s books that were already on the water en route to the West coast are delayed and it’s beyond their control, as they cannot reroute the shipments.) Amazon is scheduled to have the paperback in stock on March 17, 2015, which is the same day the book will start being available in digital format for the and for the Kindle ebook reader.

Also, highly recommended this week from GoD’s PS Hayes are King: Mandrake the Magician #1 and Red Sonja #100, both from Dynamite Entertainment, while Maximus Prime has selected Image Comics’ Autumnlands: Tooth & Claw #4 as his pick of the week.
