J.J. Abrams: Some ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Rumors Are True
  |  @   |

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is 10 months away from its December 18 release, and though production is already completed, we are still no closer to knowing what the film is about. Besides the teaser trailer released back in November; the extremely short character bios with the online trading cards; and that ball droid BB-8 is a practical Effect, most of what we think we know about the Star Wars sequel is based on the many rumors and supposed spoilers that have surfaced online. Now, director J.J. Abrams is coming out to say that “some” of the rumors are true.

In a recent interview, Abrams addresses those spoilers and understands why some people may read them. Hit the jump for the quotes.

While at the Oscar Wilde Awards in Los Angeles, BBC talked to the Star Wars director about whether the spoilers that were being posted on the Internet were true. Naturally, Abrams didn’t identify which of the them were in the film, but he did say that some of them were true, and he also understands why people may want to read them.

There are a ton of rumours – some true, some false. But I’m grateful for everyone who would want to read a spoiler because it means that they care and want to see the movie. I know what it feels like, as an enormous Star Wars fan myself.

Abrams also commented on the secrecy of the plot, and some of the difficulties of hiding the plot from fans.

We did the best we can to preserve the story for the audience, but it doesn’t always work.

Despite those challenges, Abrams is incredibly excited for everyone to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

I can’t wait for you to see it. It’s been a blast working on this and luckily we have an incredible post-production team. There are always challenges as you go but it’s been a complete kick to put this together.

There are many spoilers, some of which are true, and others aren’t. Without having the script in hand or seeing any of the footage prior to release, we can’t be sure which ones are true.

  1. I just hope the stunningly obvious plot twists aren’t the ones that turn out to be true – like the young blond guy turning out to be Luke’s son, which you can see coming from 12 parsecs away – or the villain killing Han – this is going to be a boring rehash of that Star Trek movie where everyone guessed the villain was Khan six months before the movie opened.
