The GoD List: Comics for March 4, 2015
  |  @   |

Each and every week, I, “I’m swarming in plague germs!” Henchman 21 and “I bet your lymph nodes are as big as cats!” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of March 4, 2015. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

It’s going to be kind of a short list this week as I’m feeling a bit under the weather and the cold medicine is calling my name. Better wrap this up before I slip into a medicine-induced coma. It’s a menthol eucalyptus-powered GoD List!

Henchman 21

Descender #1 (Image Comics – $2.99) I’ve been eagerly anticipating Descender #1, mostly because everyone else on the internet has read it already except for me, and possibly a few others. And they have been raving about it. The raving is not surprising as Descender is a sci-fi story from writer Jeff Lemire, whose last sci-fi story was Trillium, which was just one of the best comic books of last year. For those who may have been turned off by Lemire’s unique art style, Descender features art by Dustin Nguyen, whose art is consistently excellent. Nguyen has always picked odd books to work on and I wonder if he is a smaller name in the industry because of his project selection, but if you’ve never seen his wonderfully bright water color style art, you are in for a treat. Descender is about an artificial boy named TIM-21 who may hold the secret to a disaster that struck the universe 10 years ago. It sounds a bit like Saga, but with a different voice behind it. Everybody seems to like Descender, and this could very well be the next big thing, so make sure you buy this.

All-New Hawkeye #1 (Marvel Comics – $3.99) I bring up All-New Hawkeye #1 only because I am curious to see how this series will live in the shadow of Matt Fraction and David Aja’s often-delayed but much-loved run on Hawkeye. This new volume is written by Jeff Lemire (him again?) with art by Ramon Perez. This is Lemire’s first Marvel work and while his superhero has been pretty good, the previous run is one of the most well-liked series in recent times and I’m not sure anyone is a good replacement. Anyway, Lemire and Ramon make a quality creative team, and I hope people will give it a try and also that they make an entertaining series that lives on its own.

Empress Eve

Star Trek Planet of the Apes #3 (IDW Publishing – $3.99) I’m totally loving this crossover series from IDW Publishing and BOOM! Studios that combines two of my favorite proprieties – Star Trek (an obsession of mine) Planet Of The Apes. It’s just so good. I’ve been saying this since Issue #1 and our own PS Hayes agrees with me in his review of Issue #3 when he says “If you haven’t been reading this series, you’re really missing out.” Definitely get into this miniseries now by going back for Issue #1 & Issue #2.
