We are up to episode 3 of Season 3 of Bates Motel, and it certainly took off running. We have had hallucinations, a rich social orgy club, a missing girl, Ryan Hurst, Uncle Dad bonding, first dates, and the Vera Farmiga one-woman show. Ok, so… that’s an exaggeration because this jewel has some very talented setting.

There are some spoilers, so tread carefully.

Bates Motel 3.3 “Persuasion” review: Oh thank god that floating body was NOT Annika (Tracy Spiridakos). Little Freddie Highmore can certainly hold his acting own with manly Nestor Carbonell, that’s for sure. The questions volley and are returned quickly. Norman is turning on Norma more and more.

Norman: “I think one of us has a problem and I’m tired of the assumption that it’s me.”

He gets along much better and is much more patient with the Norma that lives inside his head. Norma created a monster and now she can’t control him. I don’t know how long this show will be on the air. Despite its quality and popularity, there is a definite endgame, with Perkin’s Psycho. The Mother/Norman split persona is already established, and Norman’s increasing anger towards his mother is paving the road to her death.

One thing I really enjoyed in this episode is the growing connection between Dylan (Max Thieriot) and his Dad (Kenny Johnson). Dylan is trying to act like he doesn’t care, but is increasingly enjoying having a dad watch out for his back.

And Emma is a vast vault of secrets. Everybody is always telling her, “Don’t tell anybody, but…”
