Adam McKay May Still Direct A Marvel Film
  |  @   |

During the events of the Edgar Wright and Marvel’s Ant-Man fallout, Marvel looked to Anchorman writer and director Adam McKay to help revise the script. The studio was seriously considering letting McKay direct the film as well, but he couldn’t commit, and job eventually went to Peyton Reed. However, during that time, Marvel was impressed with McKay’s work on the script, and soon enough rumors started to emerge that he could be up for a future project.

Now that rumor has popped up again. A lot of things have changed since McKay has finished writing the script. Marvel has announced a number new titles and have the rights to use Spider-Man in their films. So there are a few possibilities as to what he could be directing. Hit the jump to see what kinds of options McKay has.

LatinoReview was the first to report the news. With the Russo Brothers directing Captain America: Civil War and both parts of Avengers: Infinity War, and James Gunn directing Guardians of the Galaxy 2, all that McKay is left with is Thor: Ragnarök, Black Panther, Captain Marvel and The Inhumans. But the site adds that Captain Marvel will likely go to a female director, while Black Panther deserves a minority director.

If that is the case, then McKay’s options are narrowed down to Thor: Ragnarok and The Inhumans. While Thor has some humor in it, though not as much as Guardians of the Galaxy, it is a film franchise that has a rich history in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this may factor into McKay’s decision, plus there is a huge fantastical element to it. So this leaves us with Inhumans, which will give the director an opportunity to create a new vision while staying within the contained universe — like how Gunn expanded MCU with his vision in Guardians. Vin Diesel is currently teasing his involvement in the film, much like he did during (and before) Guardians of the Galaxy.

Nothing is set in stone, and Inhumans is still four years out from release, so a lot of things can change. We still haven’t seen the connection between The Inhumans and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Though I’m sure all will be revealed by the season finale.

What do you think? Does McKay deserve the job? What film do you see him directing?
