Digital Wire Blu-ray Releases: Fifty Shades, Seventh Son, Rockin’ Docs
  |

Spring is in the air, and so are love and an increased pollen content. After you finish wiping your runny eyes and plugging up those dripping nostrils, check out this week’s edition of The Digital Wire. Now if you’ll excuse me, I just sneezed all over my laptop screen. Gross.

Below you’ll find info on several future DVD and Blu-ray releases complete with technical specs, release dates, and links to pre-order at Amazon, as well as a list of titles coming out this week.

We would greatly appreciate it if you use those links to order because a small percentage of each order helps keep this website running at max power. The cover art for certain titles has yet to be finalized.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has set a release date of May 26, 2015 for the release of the long-delayed fantasy adventure Seventh Son on Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, and DVD. Starring Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, Ben Barnes, Alicia Vikander, Kit Harington and Olivia Williams, the Sergei Bodrov-directed feature will arrive on home video with a few supplements of interest:

Deleted/Alternate Scenes
Defenders of Good
Resurrecting the Wicked
Forging a Medieval Realm
The Legend and Lore of the Seventh Son

Speaking of films that suffered from long delays, the politically-themed romantic comedy Accidental Love was almost literally dumped on the world via an unexceptional VOD release and reviews that have already earned it a place on most critics’ Worst Films of the Year lists. Lockheed Martin couldn’t have manufactured a more destructive bomb. Original director David O. Russell shot the majority of the film several years under the title Nailed, but budgetary issues and creative conflicts lead to the prolific filmmaker taking a hike. His directorial credit was replaced by a pseudonym, but stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Jessica Biel, Catherine Keener, James Marsden, Tracy Morgan and James Brolin were unfortunately not permitted the luxury of having their names – and faces – replaced or plain outright deleted from the movie. Russell left the movie unfinished so it was completed without his input in order for the producers and financiers to recoup some, if any, of their losses. Curious viewers will get the chance to judge for themselves when Alchemy releases Accidental Love on Blu-ray on April 28, 2015. Extra features have yet to be announced, but I wouldn’t hold out for a director or cast commentary track.

As further proof that they must be the greatest home video label in the world, Shout! Factory has announced that they are finally bringing Penelope Spheeris‘ seminal 1981 punk rock documentary The Decline Of Western Civilization and its two sequels – 1988’s The Decline Of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years and 1998’s The Decline Of Western Civilization Part III (the latter of which has never been released on VHS or DVD) – to Blu-ray and DVD for the first time ever. The Decline Of Western Civilization Collection will be available for sale beginning June 30, 2015. In addition to each film receiving a new 2K high-definition scan supervised by director Spheeris, the box set will also include some new and archival bonus features:

Audio Commentary By Dave Grohl
Tawn Mastrey Of KNAC Interviews Penelope Spheeris
Never-Before-Seen Original Footage, Performances and Interviews
Mark Toscano Of The Academy Film Archive Interviews Penelope Spheeris
Theatrical Trailers
40-Page Booklet Featuring Rare Stills And Text By Domenic Priore
And More”¦
