Disney To Turn ‘Winnie The Pooh’ Into A Live-Action Movie
  |  @   |

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, at least that is what Disney adheres to when it comes to adapting their animated films to live-action ones. Alice In Wonderland, Maleficent, and Cinderella have all proven to be profitable films, and it doesn’t end there. The Jungle Book, Dumbo, Beauty and the Beast, and the newly announced Mulan are also on their way.

So hearing that the studio will now be adapting Winnie The Pooh into a live-action film isn’t a huge surprise. But instead of going to a headlining director for the film, they will go with Alex Ross Perry, the writer and director of the Sundance indie Listen Up Philip. Hit the jump for more.

Deadline was the first to report on the news. According to the site, the film will bring back Christopher Robin as an adult who is summoned back to the Hundred Acre Woods to help his friends. Those friends of course consist of a honey eating bear named Winnie the Pooh, a skiddish tiny pig named Piglet, a highly energetic tiger named Tigger, a helicopter kangaroo mom named Kanga and her son Roo, an obsessive compulsive rabbit fittingly named Rabbit, a wise owl also fittingly named Owl, and a depressed donkey named Eeyore.

This isn’t the first time that Disney picked an indie filmmaker to remake one of their tentpoles. Ain’t Them Body Saint‘s director David Lowery will helm a Pete’s Dragon remake for the studio. The film, which is scheduled for a 2016 release, stars Michael C. Hall, Oakes Fegley, Oona Laurence, Robert Redford, Bryce Dallas Howard, Wes Bentley and Karl Urban.

There is no telling when Disney will stop remaking their animated films into live-action ones. It’s feels like it’s only a matter of time now before we hear the studio confirm that they will be remaking Frozen as a live-action movie.
