Andy and Lana Wachowski‘s ambitious sci-fi adventure Jupiter Ascending, starring Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Sean Bean, and recent Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne, might have a better chance at finding an audience on home video than it did in the theaters when it’s released on Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, and DVD from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on June 2, 2015. Special features will include:

Jupiter Jones: Destiny Is Within Us
Caine Wise: Interplanetary Warrior
The Wachowskis: Minds Over Matter
Worlds Within Worlds Within Worlds
Jupiter Ascending: Genetically Spliced
Bullet Time Evolved
From Earth to Jupiter (And Everywhere In Between)

Get ready for a fun-filled flashback to the days when Russell Crowe was an unknown in the U.S. and Jennifer Lopez had yet to go “J. Lo” on us when Warner Bros. Home Entertainment releases The Cell and Virtuosity on Blu-ray for the first time on July 7, 2015. Lopez co-stars in the former with Vince Vaughn and Vincent D’Onofrio under the direction of Tarsem Singh (The Fall), while Crowe plays virtual villain to Denzel Washington‘s heroic cop in the latter, a cheesy but fun action flick from director Brett Leonard (The Lawnmower Man). Extra features have yet to be announced, but it wouldn’t be surprising if The Cell came to Blu-ray with the extensive supplements from New Line’s 2000 “Platinum Series” DVD.

Blue Underground has released the special features for the three 1980’s post-apocalyptic cult action classics directed by Enzo G. Castellari (The Inglorious Bastards) they will be releasing on Blu-ray on June 30, 2015. In addition to being presented in their original 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratios with English DTS-HD Master Audio mono soundtracks, each release will feature commentaries and new interviews with the director and others involved in the making of these crazy Italian sci-fi ripoffs.

First up is 1990: The Bronx Warriors, starring the great Fred Williamson and the late, great Vic Morrow:

In possibly the best video news of the week, Vinegar Syndrome and Etiquette Pictures have announced a partnership with Xenon Pictures to bring some of Xenon’s best-loved titles from the blaxploitation era to Blu-ray and DVD later this year. Chief among them are Melvin Van Peebles‘ groundbreaking work of black cinema Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song, Ralph Bakshi‘s controversial and powerful live-action/animated feature Coonskin, and Rudy Ray Moore‘s outrageous grindhouse classic Dolemite. Sweetback and Coonskin will both remastered from their 35mm negatives, while Dolemite will be fully restored from rare 35mm vault materials. Expect the first two to be released in late 2015, while Dolemite is being penciled in for an early 2016 debut.

The latest season of AMC’s hit horror series may have just ended, but Starz/Anchor Bay Entertainment already has the home video release planned. The Walking Dead: The Complete Fifth Season will be available on 5-disc Blu-ray and DVD sets on August 25, 2015. Extra features and technical details will be released soon.

Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways: Blu-ray|DVD

A Most Violent Year: Blu-ray|DVD

Silent Running: Blu-ray

Invaders from Mars: Blu-ray

Empire Records: Blu-ray

Detroit Rock City: Blu-ray

Those are the highlights of this week. Come back same time next week for more of the coolest home video news tidbits on the web.
