The GoD List Banner Comics

Each and every week, I, “The Strange Talent!” Henchman 21 and “The Legend!” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of April 8, 2015. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Look, I’ve only got so much time to read a crap load of Daredevil comics before this weekend, so I have no time to waste. They make comics. We recommend comics. You buy comics. We all read comics. That’s what we do on The GoD List!

The Legacy of Luther Strode #1 by Tradd Moore

The Legacy of Luther Strode #1 (Image Comics – $3.99) The Legacy of Luther Strode #1 kicks of the third and final mini-series by Justin Jordan and Tradd Moore and it is one I have been looking forward to for quite some time. The first two series introduced readers to Luther Strode, a standard high schooler who deals with his bullies by learning from a mysterious Charles Atlas-like training program that gives him super-human strength. Luther has faced off against others that have the same powers, and now he is searching for Cain, the originator of the training. The Luther Strode saga has been very entertaining, with a high level of ultraviolence perfectly realized by the detailed art of Moore. Moore’s unique and exaggerated style along with the colors Felipe Sobreiro make Luthor Strode stand out among other books on the stands. I’m sure that Jordan and Moore are going to end their epic with a bang and a lot of blood.

Kaijumax #1 (Oni Press – $3.99) I will let the solicitation for Kaijumax #1 do the talking for me, as it will explain the series better than I can: “Welcome to Kaijumax, where the worst of the worst monsters are safely locked away from the human world, whether they be villains, anti-heroes, eco-parables, or nuclear metaphors. Electrogor is ripped away from his family and struggles to determine whom to trust, which gangs to avoid, and when to take on the big man to show you aren’t to be trifled with. Also: the nation of Mecha!” So, Kaijumax is a prison drama except its got giant monsters, and it’s written and drawn by the fantastic Zander Cannon (Top 10, Heck). You’re going to want to buy this. Trust me.

Convergence: Batgirl #1 (of 2) (DC Comics – $3.99) I talked last week about Convergence #0, which was the start of the main series, but this week launches the books that a lot of Pre-New 52 DC fans will be looking forward to, with creators bringing back older and much loved versions of characters. Convergence Batgirl is less about bringing back creators to a character, so much as it’s about bringing back a couple of fan favorite characters: Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain. I’m a little sad DC didn’t bring back Bryan Q Miller, the writer for the Stephanie Brown Batgirl series, but I’m hopeful writer Alisa Kwitney can bring the same spirit to this issue and it will just be nice to see this version of Batgirl again. Another bit of this is the art by Rick Leonardi, which is another bit of nostalgia for me, as I have a soft spot for Leonardi’s work on Spider-Man 2099 from years ago. I know there are tons of Steph fans out there that are super excited to read this.

Convergence: The Question #1 (of 2) (DC Comics – $3.99) Here’s another Convergence book I want to read, and this is not just about the character, but also the creators. Convergence The Question sees Greg Rucka and Cully Hamner return to tell a new tale of Renee Montoya, as she helps Two-Face fight a different version of himself, and I’m guessing she’s going to try to get to the bottom of what Convergence is all about, because that’s kind of what The Question does. Rucka is the writer responsible for the vast majority of the material featuring Montoya as The Question, and getting rid of Montoya may be one of the biggest mistakes DC made when they started the New 52, so this is a welcome chance to see more of her adventures, even if it is for a short time.
