First ‘True Detective’ Season 2 Trailer Is Here

HBO has released the first trailer for season two of their acclaimed crime drama anthology series True Detective. The trailer is only a minute long, but still shows off plenty of footage to get fans of the series excited for the sophomore effort.

Season two stars Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Vince Vaughn, Taylor Kitsch, and Kelly Reilly, with Justin Lin directing the first two episodes of the season. Cary Fukunaga directed all eight episodes of the highly praised first season of the show, which was created and written by Nic Pizzolatto, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

Here’s a full rundown of who’s playing who in the second season. Apart from this no official synopsis is available at the moment.

Farrell (In Bruges, Minority Report) plays Ray Velcoro, a “compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.”

McAdams (Midnight in Paris, Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) will play Ani Bezzerides, “a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves.”

Vaughn (Wedding Crashers, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story) stars as Frank Semyon, “a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.”

Kitsch (John Carter, Lone Survivor) plays the character Paul Woodrugh, “a war veteran and motorcycle officer for the California Highway Patrol, running from a difficult past and the sudden glare of a scandal that never happened.”

Reilly (Above Suspicion, Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) plays Semyon’s wife, “a former D-list actress who is a full partner in his enterprises and ambitions.”

True Detective season two premieres on June 21st.
