‘Arrow’ 3.19 “Broken Arrow” Spoilers: Saying Goodbye
  |  @   |

During the latest episode of Arrow, Season 3, Episode 19 titled “Broken Arrow,” we said goodbye to one of the show’s characters.

Continue reading to see who it was, what executive producers of the show had to say about the departure, and to discuss if you watched the episode. And of course, spoiler warning for Wednesday night’s episode of Arrow!

On Wednesday night’s episode we said goodbye to Roy Harper aka Arsenal (Colton Haynes) who drove off into the night in a red sports car, after staging his own death in prison.

Roy had confessed to being the Arrow, freeing Oliver from his own confession. He had been wracked with guilt since last season when he killed a cop while under the influence of the mirakuru drug. He had been a street kid doing petty crimes until Oliver (Stephen Amell) as the Arrow saved his life in episode 1.18 “Salvation.” He saw the chance to fix both. It made him feel a little better, paying for his crime… even if it wasn’t the crime he was charged for. Plus he got to repay the life debt.

Lance (Paul Blackthorne): “Harper was killed an hour ago.” Thea (Willa Holland) and Oliver are devastated.

Roy was not killed! He, Diggle (David Ramsey), and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), with a little help from Argus, enacted this plan, leaving Roy to start a new life, and Oliver to be innocent in the eyes of the city.

Oliver: “If everyone thinks you’re dead, what happens to Roy Harper?”

What does happen?

Deadline caught up with executive producers Marc Guggenheim and Greg Berlanti who noted that Haynes was always contracted to leave this season, having come off a stint on the show Teen Wolf.

On the impact of Roy’s leaving:

BERLANTI: “It’s always affecting the show when one character is moving on to the great beyond. That allows the show to grow and change, with the state of loss providing stakes. The end of this season is very much a punctuation mark on the first three seasons. Third season will feel like the end of a trilogy, with elements and pieces coming together. We are heading into a big, epic, climactic battle, and I’m not not going to give away who is going to make it. Everything will be changed after this season.”

GUGGENHEIM: “The third season finale is among our best episodes, with each moment more shocking and surprising than the next.”

They also went on to say that Haynes will appear in one more episode, and there are talks of him guesting on The Flash and the possible Arrow/Flash spinoff. I certainly hope so.

  1. There are so many things about this show to love. One of my favorite moments from this week’s episode was when former Superman Brandon Routh was flying into town in his Atom suit. Two people look up and say, “It’s a bird,” “Its’ a plane.” Great Caesar’s Ghost, how awesome was that?
