The future is inevitable. In Cyber Force, Vol. 2: Rebirth written by Marc Silvestri, with illustrations by Marco Turini and colors from Arif Prianto and Andy Troy, the cybernetically enhanced heroes would like to save the world from a horrible rumored future, but they’ll need to save themselves first.

Cyber Force, Vol. 2 picks up right where the first volume left off, as the heroes try to escape CDI (CyberData Industries) after a violent confrontation with CDI’s chairman. Just as one threat is extinguished, a new CDI created menace with a personal vendetta against Ripclaw emerges. As the team tries to elude their new, deadly foe — while doing their best to keep one of their own alive — the new chairwoman of CDI begins her nefarious plans for the creation of a new earth.

Okay, here’s the thing: I need to read more of what Silvestri is putting out, because what he’s doing in Cyber Force is insanely good! The characters are compelling, the story is engaging, and the twists will have you re-reading a page to ensure that what you’ve just read is actually as crazy as you thought. By the end of the last issue, my mouth was wide open (thank God my wife wasn’t around because I’m sure I looked ridiculous) as I remained on my couch, staring at the last page, contemplating the depth and scope of what I had just read.

Turini, Prianto, and Troy excel through their art during the action sequences, making you feel as though you’re in a war zone. The colors are dark and gritty, almost offering a foreshadow in their own right toward what the future might hold.

I had read the first Cyber Force volume a while back and, unfortunately, forgot about it for some time; however, I’ve been reading a few Top Cow titles as of late, Cyber Force, Vol. 2: Rebirth being one, and I have to say that Top Cow is on top of their game right now. If you aren’t reading any of their books, I suggest you get to it, and start with Cyber Force!
