Blu-ray Releases Kingsman

This week’s edition of Digital Wire Blu-ray Releases features news on upcoming home video releases for the winter action hit Kingsman: The Secret Service, the latest DC Universe animated film, Wes Anderson’s sublime coming-of-age fable Moonrise Kingdom, and a completely bizarro tale of humans attempting to live among the wildest of animals and the gruesome hilarity that ensues.

Below you’ll find info on several future home video releases complete with technical specs, release dates, and links to pre-order at Amazon, as well as a list of titles coming out this week.

We would greatly appreciate it if you use those links to order because a small percentage of each order helps keep this website running at max power. The cover art for certain titles has yet to be finalized.

Justice League: Gods & Monsters

The latest animated feature from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and DC Comics, Justice League: Gods & Monsters, is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on July 28, 2015. Set in an alternate universe where the iconic DCU superheroes resemble their greatest adversaries, Gods & Monsters features the voice talents of Michael C. Hall (Dexter) as Batman, Benjamin Bratt (Law & Order) as Superman, Tamara Taylor (Bones) as Wonder Woman, Jason Isaacs (Black Hawk Down) as Lex Luthor, Paget Brewster (Community) as Lois Lane, and C. Thomas Howell (The Amazing Spider-Man) as Dr. Will Magnus. Bonus features will include:

ALTERNATE REALITIES: Infinite Possibilities – Justice League: Gods & Monsters falls into a category of storytelling where our well-known characters and the worlds they inhabit are re-imagined. This documentary explores the various attempts by writers to have a little fun and tinker with the characters, resulting in exceptional storytelling that posed thought-provoking questions to audiences.
CALCULATED RISKS: The Making of Gods and Monsters – Justice League: Gods & Monsters was an idea that pushed the boundaries. It began with that challenging question writers face: “What haven’t we seen before?” Bruce Timm and Alan Burnett audaciously answered that challenge, resulting in a fresh and exciting film that forces us to think differently about the DC Universe.
The New Gods – Encore presentation of 2010 documentary about Jack Kirby’s New Gods.
A Sneak Peak at DC Universe’s Next Animated Movie – An advance look at the next DC Universe animated feature film.

Roar

“No animals were harmed in the making of this film. 70 cast and crew members were.” On October 6, 2015, Drafthouse Films’ latest cinematic acquisition/resurrection, the utterly bonkers 1981 family adventure drama Roar, will make its long-awaited debut on Blu-ray and DVD from Olive Films. The notorious production that put a gutsy cast and crew through a persistent nightmare nearly on the level of jungle combat will return to select theaters across the U.S. in limited release before hitting home video. Extra features have yet to be announced.

kingsman secret service bluray

I still have yet to see Kingsman: The Secret Service, but Matthew Vaughn‘s R-rated spy adventure did quite well for itself with the critics and the paying public and should do even better when it comes to Blu-ray and DVD on June 9, 2015 from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

< Moonrise Kingdom

The Criterion Collection has announced their release slate for July, and among the latest batch of cinema classics getting the deluxe home video treatment are Stephen Frears‘ breakthrough feature My Beautiful Laundrette, the masterful children’s drama The Black Stallion, and both film adaptations of Ernest Hemingway‘s short story The Killers. Best of all (for me anyway), Wes Anderson‘s poignant comedy-drama Moonrise Kingdom is joining every other feature made by the gifted filmmaker on the Criterion label in the form of a new Blu-ray that is scheduled to be released on July 21, 2015. The disc will include a combination of new and previously available supplements:

Restored 2K digital transfer, supervised by director Wes Anderson, with 5.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on the Blu-ray
Audio commentary featuring Anderson
Selected-scene storyboard animatics
Interviews with cast and crew
Behind-the-scenes tour hosted by Bill Murray
Welcome to New Penzance, hosted by Bob Balaban
Auditions
Home movies from the set

More!
PLUS: A booklet featuring an essay by critic Geoffrey O’Brien, plus a map of New Penzance Island and other ephemera
