‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Films Could Have A 9-Month Shoot

Avengers: infinity War

Marvel Studios’ Avengers plan was ambitious, but it was a gamble that paid off, and come 2018 and 2019, it will all come together for the two-part film Avengers: Infinity War. The film is said to bring all the heroes of the solo features, and probably Guardians of the Galaxy and maybe the television shows for one mega-ensemble fight against Thanos, The Mad Titan.

Since Avengers: Infinity War is being split into two parts, production is going to be one massive undertaking, with the logistics of getting everyone’s schedules coordinated not only during scheduled shooting but also for re-shoots and the inevitable ADR.

Now Captain America himself is confirming that the shooting on the two films will be lengthy. According to Chris Evans, filming both parts of Avengers: Infinity War could take as long as nine months to complete.

Here’s what the actor had to say in an interview with Esquire:

You know, you plan around the Marvel responsibilities. You have to. We start [Captain America: Civil War] in a couple weeks, and then that shoots until August or something like that. August or September. Then I’ve got some downtime and I can do with it as I please. I don’t know if I want to take time off or go pursue another directing job or find a movie to act in or, you know, do whatever I’m creatively inclined to pursue or wait, relax, enjoy my life. And then we start the Infinity War, I think, some time in the third quarter. Fall or winter of 2016. That’s going to be like nine months to shoot both movies back to back.

It’s no surprise that Marvel would be giving him a break before what looks like to be a nearly year-long commitment. A lot of the actors don’t have too many films on their contracts, so it’s not likely that we will see Chris Evans cameo in Thor: Ragnarok or Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but who knows.

The Fall 2016 start date makes sense on paper, by then The Russo Brothers would have already started pre-production since they would have already completed the press tour for Captain America: Civil War. And since it is a nine-month shoot, they would presumably finish some time in Summer 2017. This would give them almost a full year to work on any necessary post-production work, which will most likely include reshoots and ADR.
