Rumor: ‘Spider-Man’ Reboot Has A New Working Title

Sony isn’t wasting any time tying their franchise superhero, Spider-Man, to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As we all know, Sony and Marvel made a deal earlier this year to share the webslinger, allowing him to play in the Marvel sandbox.
We are still very early in the pre-production phase as no one has been named director or has been cast as the titular character. Even The Spectacular Spider-Man title is unconfirmed. But a new rumor says that Sony and Marvel may have a new working title. Hit the jump for more.
The rumored title comes from none other than El Mayimbe of Latino Review, who says that the title of the new Spider-Man film may be Spider-Man: The New Avenger. He posted the news to his Instagram account with the following caption,
RT! #UNCONFIRMED #RUMOR Take with the tiniest grain of salt pending further confirmation. I’m being told the working title for the untitled SPIDER-MAN stand alone film is SPIDER-MAN:THE NEW AVENGER Again, it’s Sunday so take with grain pending further confirmation. What do you think of title? #Spiderman #marvel #MCU #marvelcomics #marvelmovies
A title can say a lot about a film, and this one, if true, wastes no time making a connection to the MCU. In many ways it does mirror Captain America: The First Avenger, by having that Avengers tag in the title, it further establishes that Spider-Man is indeed a part of the MCU.
Despite that this is the second time that the title hero is being rebooted in nearly 13 years, audiences are more likely to watch this particular Spider-Man just because it has Avenger in the title. I know I would.
Now as El Mayimbe said, this is a rumor, and it should be taken with a grain of salt. But the guy has more than a decent track record, so chances are, this could be the title.
As previously mentioned, the initial rumored title was The Spectacular Spider-Man. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has confirmed that they are looking for an actor to play a 15 – 16 year old Spider-Man.
