Marvel Studios has always had a tendency to make surprising castings. From Robert Redford to James Spader, whatever they seem to be doing, they are getting the right actor you would least expect to see in a Marvel film. Today happens to be one of those days.

The studio announced via their website that Martin Freeman (Sherlock, The Hobbit) will be joining the cast of Captain America: Civil War. No word yet on who he could play, but click below for what Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige had to say about the casting.

Feige expressed his excitement about bringing Freeman into the MCU, and talked a little bit about his impressive roles in the past:

I’m guessing that this isn’t the Spider-Man announcement we are all waiting for. There could be a number of characters Freeman cold be playing, so your guess is as good as ours. In addition to his roles in Sherlock, The Hobbit trilogy, and The Office, the actor was nominated for an Emmy for his role as Lester Nygaard in the FX hit Fargo.

Filming is currently underway for Captain America: Civil War which will see Captain America and Iron Man fighting on opposite sides as world governments are demanding accountability and oversight of superheroes.

Captain America: Civil War also stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Renner, and Frank Grillo, all of whom will reprise their respective roles. The film also marks the cinematic debut of Chadwick Boseman, who will play T’Challa aka Black Panther. Daniel Brühl, who is also in the film, says he is playing Baron Zemo, although that has yet to be confirmed.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Captain America: Civil War opens in theaters on May 6, 2016.
