‘Captain America: Civil War’: Emily VanCamp Reprises Her Role As Agent 13
  |  @   |

Captain America: Civil War is starting to look like Avengers 2.5. The cast is stacked with various Marvel Cinematic Universe alums ranging from those introduced in Phase 1 like Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Sebastian Stan, to those introduced in Phase 2 like Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, and Elizabeth Olsen. Chadwick Boseman joins the cast as Black Panther, with Daniel Brühl playing Baron Zemo, and Martin Freeman as an unidentified character. Spider-Man will also make his debut, but has yet to be cast.

Now a new report says that Emily VanCamp will also be in the film. She will reprise her role as Agent 13 aka Sharon Carter the niece of Peggy Carter – although Captain America has yet to discover her lineage.

Since this is Civil War, and VanCamp’s return confirms Agent 13 has a role in the film, does this mean what we think it means? More below.

In the comics, Sharon and Steve do share an intimate relationship with each other, but this was never fully fleshed out in the MCU. So the film could explore that relationship since Steve did express some interest in her towards the end of Winter Soldier.

But to add a small twist, in the Civil War comic book arc, Sharon successfully assassinates Captain America, after having been brainwashed by Crossbones aka Brock Rumlow (Frank Grillo).

With so many characters to juggle, this is the perfect opportunity to test whether or not Anthony and Joe Russo have what it takes to handle so many characters in one film. Though Joss Whedon did so successfully in two Avengers films, he has stated that there was some behind the scenes tension during the editing process of Age of Ultron.

We can’t even be sure if the Russo brothers will indeed follow the Civil War story arc to the letter, but with the way casting is going, it sure does look grim for Captain America.

Captain America: Civil War opens in theaters on May 6, 2016.
