‘The Fugitive’ Remake On The Way
  |  @   |

TV shows being adapted for the big screen is not uncommon at all, but few movies achieve the kind of acclaim that The Fugitive has. The film, starring Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones, earned seven Academy Award nominations including one for Best Supporting Actor for Jones. Now a remake of the movie is in the works.

According to a report from Deadline, Warner Brothers is working on the remake and are setting their sights on starting production early next year. More below.

The original film was based on the 1960s television series of the same name created by Roy Huggins. In it, Dr. Richard Kimble was arrested and convicted for the murder of his wife, a crime he did not commit. When his prison transportation train derailed, Kimble made an escape to clear his name and find the One-Armed Man, whom Kimble believes is responsible for the murder, while being pursued by U.S. Marshals led by Deputy Samuel Gerard.

The Fugitive went on to gross approximately $400 worldwide, all on a $40 million budget. While the film was nominated for four seven Academy Awards including Best Picture, Tommy Lee Jones was the only one to win an Oscar. There was a sequel, U.S. Marshals, released in 1998, with Jones reprising his role as Samuel Gerard. Robert Downey Jr. and Wesley Snipes also starred, but the film received mixed reviews and didn’t gross as much as its predecessor.

Christina Hodson will write the script. No word yet on who the studio is looking at to direct the remake.

According to the site, there is a small chance that Ford and Jones could come back to reprise their roles, although that wouldn’t make sense. Unless there was a one-armed copycat running loose, having the two in the remake is completely unnecessary. No offer has been made as of yet though.

So how many of you remember The Fugitive? Are you up for the remake?
