Sigh… next week is the last episode of the season. I’m going to miss my boys. Let’s recap first.

Last week‘s “Dark Dynasty,” brought us almost the full Styne (otherwise known as Frankenstein) family, bent on getting their hands on the Book of the Damned. I think they should go meet Dr. Dulmacher aka The Dollmaker from Gotham. They would have fit right in on his island. Their methods were so gross. I suppose there is no real way to cull body parts without being disgusting, but still.

Charlie, Castiel, and Rowena (Felicia Day, Misha Collins, and Ruth Connell) were like a comedy show, bickering in the funniest way possible. Until…

Charlie is dead. I KNEW it was gonna happen as soon as Rowena starting talking about how the Winchesters (Sam and Dean – Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) would get her killed. She served back that they were her brothers. That means death in TV world. She dies honorably, helping til the end.

Supernatural 10.22 “The Prisoner” review: They burn Charlie’s body amidst sad teary flashbacks. Sam should be a little more upset though. All bets are off with Dean now. “Stynes! come out and plaayyy!” He charges in alone to a house of killers focused on killing him.

Sam, do you have to ruin everything? You break Dean. You are directly responsible for Charlie’s death. You turn off Crowley’s humanity. What’s wrong with you? That was the most fun Crowley has been in years! I mean, I guess Rowena is going to be the comic relief now. She is delightful.

I know if I was Sam, I’d do the exact same thing – whatever it takes to save my family, even at the expense of others. We have the judgment luxury of being spectators.

So Dean gets captured and starts the bloody spree. He goes too far, even for a Marked up Dean – really too far. He kills the young Styne boy, who begs for his life, and was shown bullied at the beginning. And then he beats the shit out of Castiel and almost kills him.

I know they were renewed for season 11 and I am glad, but I really don’t know how Dean will come back from this. Can they really just blame this all on the mark?

I really hope next week’s finale reunites the entire season of guests – Charlie, Bobby (Jim Beaver), Metatron (Curtis Armstrong), and Claire Novak (Kathryn Newton). The coming attractions for the finale show guest star Death (Julian Richings). Love when he is on the show!

The season finale of Supernatural airs next Wednesday, May 20th, at 9pm ET on The CW.

  1. Hmmmm. I think most of the stuff Sammy did was totally out of character. I am not pleased with the writers of these last two episodes at all.

His hate speech to Crowley was weird and cruel, and I didn’t get the point of it. I guess I can understand him agreeing to kill Crowley (he is a demon after all) in a desperate attempt to save his brother, but I don’t understand the gloating, nasty nature of it. Not from Sam. It was all wrong. For a moment, I wonder if he was possessed, it was so unlike him.

His tardy and bumbling response to Cas when he called for help and advice, and his clumsy inability to find an excuse to leave Dean to answer that call was stupid. Have we not all witnessed Sam lie so smoothly and convincingly that God himself would believe him? Sam is an experienced warrior, schemer, liar, cheat and hustler. And they had him acting like it was his first rodeo. It was ridiculous. And unbelievable. And ruined it for me.

That’s not the Sam I know and love…and have known and loved for TEN years.

Indeed, I rather assumed that he made the deal with the disgusting, vile Rowena with his “fingers crossed”…with no intention of killing Crowley at all. That would have been a more typical, smart, savvy, “Sammy” move.

As for Rowena, I detest her. Seriously. I want to turn off the TV when she appears. I CAN. NOT. WAIT. until she is killed off once and for all. She’s not someone I love to hate. I just detest her. And she’s put me right off what I usually consider a very charming accent.

In my opinion, Charlie’s death was NOT Sam’s fault. He set up a safe place for her to work, and told her clearly that she must not go out on her own as there were bad men looking for her. She was safe and protected until she decided to ignore the warning and the danger. She was brave and loyal to the end, God love her, but she was also responsible for her own demise through he own foolish actions.

As for Dean killing the Styne kid, remember, Dean didn’t have the advantage of seeing his back story like we did. All Dean knew was that the young man was there with his evil family, to despoil Dean’s home, steal what they could, burn the rest, and kill anyone they found—as they had mercilessly killed Charlie. And let’s be real, the Styne kid’s begging for his life was hardly a demonstration of his innocence—even bad guys do that, and do so ever so convincingly. No, Dean had no reason whatsoever to believe he was anything but an evil minion of an evil organization.

Finally, Dean’s beating of Castiel was brutal and ugly. I kept wondering why Cas didn’t fight back. But I think now that he just didn’t want to hurt Dean. It got pretty real right there at the end, but I think Cas was willing to bet on Dean still being Dean.

    And he was right.

I don’t think Dean went too far, at least not with the Stynes. I think they deserved exactly what they got. And, honestly, it was a pleasure watching Dean mete out that justice. I sorta, secretely like seriously badass Dean.

That headshot as the penultimate Styne was talking sh*t while slowly rolling up his sleeves for a fight he felt confident of winning…was a thing of beauty.

But in the end, it is Sam’s badly written behavior that worries me. I’m not sure how you bring a character back whole when you have so distorted his fundamental nature.

    I’m still not over it.
