Andy Serkis ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Character Revealed
  |  @   |

Andy Serkis won’t be revealing his face in a film any time soon. But at least we finally know the identity of his character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Continuing to wear the mocap makeup – dots and all – it has been been confirmed that the actor will be playing Supreme Leader Snoke. More after the break.

Iconic photographer Annie Leibovitz confirmed the news in an interview with StarWars.com. about her recent Vanity Fair shoot for the film. The photo also confirms that Serkis’ performance will be entirely motion-capture based. Though the actor has occasionally appeared live-action sans the mocap suit, it only seems fitting that he’d be doing what he’s good at. We have the image of Serkis in his motion capture gear here below.

Now we don’t know what the character looks like yet, but we can surmise that whatever Serkis will look like, it won’t be human. This actually wouldn’t be the first time that Serkis has interacted with fans during the course of The Force Awakens marketing campaign. We first heard him in the opening sequence of the first trailer for The Force Awakens, where he said “There has been an awakening… have you felt it?” The final piece of dialogue in the trailer would also come from him where he says “The Dark Side… and the Light.” Does this mean his character has a connection to the Force? Does he lead the new Resistance or does he lead the First Order?

The news comes after confirmation that Gwendoline Christie will play Captain Phasma, the elite chrome Stormtrooper; Adam Driver will play Kylo Ren, the faceless phantom who wields a crossguard lightsaber; and Lupita Nyong’o will also put on the motion-capture suit to play Maz Kanata, a leader of a band of pirates.

Also starring John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Kenny Baker, Peter Mayhew, and Anthony Daniels, Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters on December 18, 2015. It is directed by J.J. Abrams, with a script written by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan.
