In the past few weeks, the Transformers shared universe story trust has grown. But fans have taken issue with the team’s lack of diversity, and in response to that Paramount Pictures has hired a pair of female writers, Lindsey Beer and Christina Hodson.
The duo will be joining the writing team made up of The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, Iron Man scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, Pacific Rim 2 writer Zak Penn, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Lost‘s Jeff Pinkner, and Ant-Man co-writersAndrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari. The team will be led by Akiva Goldsman.
Deadline was the first to report on the news. They didn’t mention which scripts the newly hired pair would be working on. Unconfirmed reports say that in addition to the inevitable Transformers 5, one of the spinoffs could be an origins film set on the fictional planet Cybertron, while the other would focus on the fan-favorite Bumblebee.
Beer and Hodson are up-and-coming writers with no major credits to their names. Hodson may sound the most familiar because she is attached to write The Fugitive remake over at Warner Bros. She also scripted Sony’s The Eden Project, as well as Shut In, which stars two-time Academy Award-nominated Naomi Watts.
Beer is attached to write the re-imagining of Wizard of Oz, which is also over at WB. She also did work on Short Circuit for The Weinstein Company.
The team of writers will all report to the brain trust/executive producers which consist of Goldsman, Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura. The plan is to get these writers to work together as a story trust, with each of them working together on these scripts as a unit before splitting off to write their own scripts. The goal is to get a script ready in time for Bay after he finished his Bengazhi film 13 Hours.
So what do you think? Did Paramount pick the right two to join the team?
