Rumor: Second Star Wars Anthology To Center On Han Solo and Boba Fett

Star Wars Bounty Hunters Scene

Recent news on the second Star Wars anthology film has been surrounded in a bit of controversy. We know that Josh Trank is no longer the director of the film, but it was the reasons why Disney and Lucasfilm let him go that were so controversial. Since then, there has been word that the film could center on Boba Fett, and while this has been unconfirmed, there are new reports that back that claim up, plus additional reports that the film could also have Han Solo, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, and Bossk in the mix.

Not only that, but there are rumors that Jon Favreau and Matthew Vaughn are in talks to direct the film.

More on these stories below.

The people over at Schmoes Know were the first to report on the Star Wars news. According to them, the film would focus on the aforementioned characters, and be set in between Episode III and IV. Now, this isn’t too far off the first rumor, which eventually ended up being Star Wars: Rogue One. While the initial premise of stealing the plans to the Death Star stuck with that film, the rumor was that the Rebel Alliance would be hiring the bounty hunters to steal the plans. However, it was always rumored that the bounty hunters would get a spinoff film of their own, when Disney announced that there would be Star Wars spinoffs at the time the acquisition was made.

Disney and Lucasfilm have yet to comment on the matter, but the site says that the second spinoff would focus primarily on the rivalry between Solo and Fett, and would have a strong western influence. Sounds like a pretty exciting movie!

Now with Trank out as director, Disney and Lucasfilm would have to be looking for the right director to ask as a replacement. According to the same site, Favreau and Vaughn are rumored to be on the shortlist of directors. Favreau is already working with Disney on a live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book. He is also familiar with big budget films, after having already worked on two Iron Man films.

Vaughn also has an impressive track record. He knows his way around the fantasy department thanks to Stardust, but can work with big budget films as well, having proven himself with films like X-Men: First Class and Kingsman: The Secret Service. Kick-Ass shows that he can also get dark and gritty.

All of this sounds good, but are just a bunch of unconfirmed rumors. There is no reason to believe that any of this is true, but there is also no reason to believe that this is not true. Point being, we will be reporting on this as soon as any updates are reported.

So what do you think? Would you be interested in a film centering on the Han Solo and Boba Fett rivalry? Is an old western-style theme right for the film?
