James Cameron in Terminator

Oftentimes when you let go of your franchise creation, subsequent directors lose sight of what made the original films great. Terminator is a great example of that, with director James Cameron giving us two fantastic films, but Rise of the Machines and Salvation — from different directors — failed to live up to expectations. With Terminator Genisys just weeks away from release, Paramount will be making one final marketing push to get moviegoers interested in the upcoming installment.

A new featurette is doing just that, and it is bringing in Cameron to talk about how Genisys is the true sequel to his Terminator 2: Judgment Day. More on this story and the featurette here below.

Generally when you have the creator of a massive franchise like Terminator, it’s just to generate some positive buzz. But this is a little different. This isn’t just an interview or some random TMZ intrusion, this is a featurette, meaning Cameron took the time out of the day to talk about his glowing reaction to the film, and just by hearing him talk, it sounds like Terminator Genisys will be the best film of the franchise.

Now of course, just like any trailer and TV spot, featurettes have never before seen footage, so if you want to go into the new film fresh and spoiler-free, it’s probably best you turn the screen dark and just listen to Cameron talk about the film.

Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as the T-800 Terminator, Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) as John Connor, Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) as Sarah Connor, Jai Courtney (Live Free or Die Hard) as Kyle Reese, and Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as a close ally of John’s, along with Lee Byung-hun, Dayo Okeniyi, Courtney B. Vance, Sandrine Holt, and J.K. Simmons, Terminator Genisys opens July 1, 2015.

When John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance, sends Sgt. Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and safeguard the future, an unexpected turn of events creates a fractured timeline. Now, Sgt. Reese finds himself in a new and unfamiliar version of the past, where he is faced with unlikely allies, including the Guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger), dangerous new enemies, and an unexpected new mission: To reset the future”¦
