The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, Iron Man scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, Pacific Rim 2 writer Zak Penn, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Lost“˜s Jeff Pinkner, and Ant-Man co-writers Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, Lindsey Beer (The Fugitive remake) and Christina Hodson (the re-imagining of Wizard of Oz) currently make up the writing team of the Transformers Shared Universe, and now that team is about to add three more.

Joining the team will be former Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight, Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Black List script Hibernation). The team will be led by Akiva Goldsman, who talked a little bit about the upcoming universe and what to expect from him and the team. Read what he had to say below.

In an exclusive interview with Deadline, Goldsman said:

“We’ve got a work space that is beautifully production designed to be immersive with a strong sense of the franchise history. We will look at the toys, the TV shows, the merchandise, everything that has been generated by Hasbro, from popular to forgotten iterations, and establish a mythological time line. It has been designed with a lot of visual help, toys, robots, sketches and writers and artists. After that super saturation, the writers will figure out not one, but numerous films that will extend the universe.”

Here’s the rumored plan. Paramount wants to have Transformers 5 figured out and have a script ready for Michael Bay when he completes his work on his Benghazi movie, 13 Hours. All of the writers will come away with this exercise with a movie treatment to write, including Goldsman. Writers will then begin working on their own script before sending it off for the approval of Paramount, Bay, Spielberg, Hasbro and the producers. Paramount has yet to announce the titles for the spinoff films, but rumor has it that one of the scripts could be an origins film rumored to be titled Transformers One. Another is a rumored untitled Bumblebee centric movie.

Assuming that each member of the team gets his or her own script, we could get up to 12 different Transformers movies. 10 if the teams of Marcum and Holloway and Barrer and Ferrari don’t end up separating. As previously reported while the writers will be working on individual scripts, the team will be providing input if there is room for improvement.

Goldsman on how the team will be working together to expand the Transformers Shared Universe:

“If one of the writers discovers an affinity for Beast Wars, they can drive forward on treatments that will have been fleshed out by the whole room.”

It will certainly be interesting to see what will come out of the writers’ room.
