‘Blade Runner’: Watch This Alternate Cut Assembled From Deleted Scenes (Video)

A YouTube user going by the name of Uchuu Daisakusen has assembled a fascinating alternate cut of Ridley Scott‘s 1982 sci-fi masterpiece Blade Runner with only deleted scenes and B-roll production footage and uploaded it for all to see.

You can check out the full 46-minute video here below.

The discarded footage Daisakusen employed to create this unique perspective of Scott’s futuristic film noir classic was likely taken from the voluminous supplements found on the 30th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray of Blade Runner, which is one of the best Blus currently on the market and thus is something you should absolutely own already. In order to give the fragmented scenes the appearance of narrative cohesion, voiceover tracks recorded (and ultimately trashed) for the original by Harrison Ford (who starred as replicant hunting anti-hero Rick Deckard) were used.

The still-untitled Blade Runner sequel is quickly becoming a reality, with Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners) signed on to direct with a script penned by Hampton Fancher (who is credited as co-writer on the original, but is in fact also one of its greatest champions) and Michael Green (Green Lantern). Ford is returning to star as replicant hunting anti-hero Rick Deckard, and this time around he’ll be joined by Ryan Gosling in an unspecified role. Original director Scott, once mooted to take the helm of the sequel, will instead serve as a producer. The brilliant 11-time Academy Award nominee Roger Deakins (No Country for Old Men) is on board as the cinematographer.

As a huge fan of the original Blade Runner, the prospect of a belated sequel doesn’t excite me much, but Villeneuve is a strong and passionate filmmaker whose contributions to cinema at times resemble that of Scott. If his are the right hands for the future of this unlikely franchise, then we could be in for something very special (and respectful of the original, which can never be bettered). In the meantime, the devoted fans can keep themselves with interesting creations such as this clever video.

  1. Check your facts, BAADASSSSS. It’s the “play all” feature on the deleted scenes disc from the 5-disc set release of “Blade Runner: The Final Cut”, from 2007. Assembled by Charles de Lauzirika.
