In Looking for Group #3, the optimistic elf Cale’Anon and his band of misfit companions continue their quest for The Sword of Truth, taking them into abandoned lands and an adventure through time. With a motley crew comprising of a do-gooder elf, a hulking, yet wise minotaur, an ex-priestess, and an evil wizard named Richard, what could possibly go wrong?
I don’t read many webcomics, so Looking for Group wasn’t really on my radar; however, I’m certainly glad I’ve discovered this highly entertaining and amusing comic now that it is being published by Dynamite. While the first issue was surely an introductory tale, each new installment since has positively developed in not only story, but humor as well. For a comic that takes fantasy tropes and shakes the heck out of them in hilarious ways, issue number three is an earthquake of fantastical comedy and mayhem.
Like previous issues, Looking for Group #3 also features a couple of shorts after the main, ongoing story. Focusing on “non-playable characters,” the short stories do a nice job at providing a little extra humor without having to necessarily feel invested in the characters.
Looking for Group #3 is an action-packed, laugh-out-loud issue in a really fun series. If you like fantasy and you don’t mind laughing at its ridiculous aspects, this might be the series for you — heck, if you enjoy making fun of fantasy because you don’t like the genre at all, this might be the series for you, too.
