‘Zootopia’ Trailer: Jason Bateman Explains Disney’s Animal Buddy Cop Comedy
  |  @   |

Following a string of animated hits, Disney will be doing something that “you’ve never seen be-fur.” Zootopia is their latest animated film that likens to the great buddy cop comedies of the past, but with that Disney Animation twist.

Jason Bateman (Horrible Bosses) plays a sly con artist fox in the movie, while Ginnifer Goodwin (Once Upon A Time) plays a bunny police officer assigned to arrest him. If you are wondering how a film like this will look, Disney has released the first teaser for the film, in which Bateman’s character explains how the various animals in Zootopia co-exist. Check out the trailer below.

While the teaser is fairly simple – it’s just a bunch of different animals walking around in a white space – it does set up the comedic tone and define what anthropomorphic means to both kids and adults. It also helps establish the two main characters of the film by hilariously showing that Nick Wilde (Bateman) and Bunny Lt. Judy Hops (Goodwin) will be at odds. Normally the two animals don’t pair well together, but when they are framed for a crime they did not commit, they are forced to put their differences aside to find the true culprit. It has been a while since Disney has released a film where talking animals are the main characters, but the buddy cop premise should give us some hope that the film will be on the same level as Frozen and Big Hero 6.

As of now, Batman and Goodwin are the only ones with confirmed voice roles.

Recently Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph) joined Bryon Howard (Tangled) and Jared Bush as co-director.

Zootopia will open in theaters on March 4, 2016.

The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together””a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when optimistic Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Zootopia,” a comedy-adventure directed by Byron Howard (“Tangled,” “Bolt”) and Rich Moore (“Wreck-It Ralph,” “The Simpsons”) and co-directed by Jared Bush (“Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero”), opens in theaters on March 4, 2016.
