Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur has had its share of production problems in the past. The first sign of trouble was when Bob Peterson was a no-show at D23 Expo in 2013. Due to some issues with the story, Peterson was taken off the project, and replaced by Peter Sohn (Pixar animated short Partly Cloudy). At the time, the film had already cast its voice talent, which consisted of Lucas Neff (Raising Hope), John Lithgow, Frances McDormand, Neil Patrick Harris, Judy Greer, and Bill Hader.
But we are now learning that The Good Dinosaur is getting a major voice cast overhaul, and everyone except McDormand has been replaced. Some of the incoming talent includes, Anna Paquin, Sam Elliott, Jeffery Wright, Steve Zahn, and more. Check out the new cast below.
Here’s the updated voice cast provided to us by Disney:
Raymond Ochoa (NBC’s The Night Shift, TNT’s Rizzoli & Isles, Disney’s A Christmas Carol) provides the voice of an Apatosaurus named Arlo.
Jeffery Wright (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – parts I & II, HBO’s Boardwalk Empire) was tapped as the voice of Poppa, Arlo’s father.
Steve Zahn (Captain Fantastic, Ridiculous Six, Rescue Dawn, Mad Dogs) provides the voice of a pterodactyl named Thunderclap.
AJ Buckley (TNT’s Murder in the First, FX’s Justified) voices a T-Rex called Nash.
Anna Paquin (HBO’s True Blood) is the voice of T-Rex Ramsey.
Sam Elliott (FX’s Justified, I’ll See You In My Dreams, Grandma) was called on as the voice of a tough T-Rex named Butch.
Francis McDormand (HBO’s Olive Kitteridge, Fargo) was tapped as the voice of Momma, Arlo’s mother.
Marcus Scribner (ABC’s black”¢ish) voices Arlo’s brother Buck.
Jack Bright (Monsters University) provides the voice of Arlo’s unlikely human friend, Spot.
This is a huge change to the original cast that had been assembled back in 2013. Back then Lucas Neff was voicing Alro, the lead dinosaur, an Apatosaurus, with Francis McDormand and John Lithgow voicing the parents. Bill Hader, Neil Patrick Harris, and Judy Greer were to voice Arlo’s siblings.
Last year, Lithgow mentioned how the script had “extensive changes” and that the film had been “completely reimagined,” but assured that he and McDormand would still be playing the parents. These changes have to have been pretty extensive for everyone but one actress to be replaced. However, it looks like the film is back on track and finally heading for a release.
The Good Dinosaur is set to open in theaters on November 25, 2015.
Here’s the premise of the film,
“The Good Dinosaur” asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.
